The San Mateo County Board of Directors has adopted resolutions to award a total of $26.8 million in grants to advance pedestrian, bicycle, and congestion relief projects countywide.

This funding includes $24.6 million from Measure A and Measure W Pedestrian and Bicycle Program Funds and $2.2 million from the Alternative Congestion Relief/Transportation Demand Management (ACR/TDM) Program.

The grants, awarded through the first-ever joint call for projects issued in June, will support 33 innovative projects designed to enhance active transportation, improve safety, and promote sustainable travel.

“This program of projects highlights our commitment to building safer, more accessible infrastructure for all modes of travel,” said Board Chair Carlos Romero. “These projects reflect a vision for sustainable transportation and community connectivity throughout San Mateo County.”

Some of the projects being funded by the adoption of these resolutions include:

San Bruno’s Huntington Avenue Bikeway Phase II – $2 millio

  • This Pedestrian and Bicycle Program award provides the final funding necessary to complete the Huntington Avenue Bikeway Phase II project. The initiative will fill the last gap in a network connecting San Bruno to South San Francisco along the Centennial Trail, while creating connectivity for Caltrain and BART users.

Redwood City’s Vera Avenue Bicycle Boulevard Project – $1.3 million

  • Initially implemented as a trial using C/CAG Transportation Development Act Article 3 grant funds, this project will now be permanently established. The Pedestrian and Bicycle Program funding will support design improvements such as neighborhood traffic circles, enhanced bike crossings, and upgraded signage to create a safer, more user-friendly bicycle boulevard.

Half Moon Bay’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Small-Scale Projects – $200,000

  • This ACR/TDM grant will fund multiple small-scale improvements in Half Moon Bay, including high-visibility crosswalks, upgraded bike lanes at conflict points, and additional bike parking installations. These enhancements aim to encourage walking and cycling as viable transportation options.
