TA Approves Funding for Alpine Road Safety Improvements
The San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board approved the allocation of Measure A funding and the programming of additional state funding for San Mateo County to begin work on safety enhancements at Alpine Road and Highway 280.
The total amount of funding to be allocated for this project is $215,000 and will be completed through a combination of Measure A and state gas tax funding.
“Our mission is to improve mobility throughout the county by funding projects that enhance infrastructure, access and public transportation,” said Carole Groom, chair of the San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board of Directors. “That mission most certainly includes providing funds that can improve the safety of our roadways for everyone who shares them. That’s why the Board felt it was vitally important to secure funding for this improvement.”
The funds will be used to construct a Class II bicycle lane through the Interstate 280/Alpine Road Interchange. The safety enhancement will give bicyclists their own lane to navigate safely through the interchange.
Over the next year, San Mateo County will be working with the bicycle community to design and environmentally clear the project before work is expected to begin in late 2013. It’s important that the project proceed in a timely manner to take advantage of available state funding.
