Colma residents who are 55 and older can now travel throughout town for just $5 per trip with a new program that operates around the clock.
The wheelchair-accessible service is called Colma Cab Connect and offers a flexible transportation resource for seniors and others who qualify.
“We’re very excited to offer this alternative form of transportation that is both affordable and available 24/7,” said town of Colma Recreation Services Manager Angelika Abellana. “Participants can receive eight monthly subsidized one-way rideshare trips, each costing just $5.”
Rides are provided through Serra Yellow Cab and must start or end in the town of Colma. Trips can also include the cities of Daly City, South San Francisco, Pacifica and San Bruno, but only the first five miles of any trip are covered through Colma Cab Connect. Additional costs for rides exceeding the program’s parameters are the responsibility of the passenger.
Funding for the rideshare-voucher program is allocated by the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) with $67,500 of Measure W funds from the TA’s Alternative Congestions Relief/Transportation Demand Management Program Category. The town is required to provide $7,500 in matching funds, bringing the total voucher funding to $75,000.
Those interested in the program can print, pick up, and submit their applications at the Colma Community Center. After review, the Colma Cab Connect cards are typically issued within one to two business days.
